The Reggae Exhibition was established in June 2012 in conjunction with the Jamaican Expo (London 2012) in Stratford, East London. It was established to celebrate Reggae music in general and the enormous influence Reggae music has had on other musical genres in particular. Importantly, the Exhibition will explore the very Roots of Reggae music and how it developed into the most popular musical genre.

The Event

The Exhibition will travel the globe with locations being announced. The main event will feature a compilation of the history, advent and world-wide growth of Reggae. All the major influences and traditions leading to the development of other genres that evolved from Reggae will be presented with previously unpublished photos, pictures, leaflets, flyers and sketches to be exhibited.

Celebrating Kuminia,pokomina, Burru, Mento, Nyabinghi, Ska, Rock Steady, Dance Hall, Lovers Rock,dub, Roots Reggae And Other genres.

Presented using: Art, Photographs And Installations, the event comprises of display boards showcasing the history of reggae music, artefacts, Bluespot gramophone, valve amplifier, vinyl records, plus other memorabilia from the world of Reggae (past and present).

Workshops

 An important and valuable aspect of the Exhibition is that it will feature workshops. This will provide visitors with the opportunity to practice and play musical instruments especially the younger patrons,. These musical lessons will be provided by professional and recognized musicians

Other workshops will be more informative in terms of providing information about the music industry especially about the musical and mechanical rights of writers, producers, lyricists, artistes, performers and expected royalties. The speakers are renowned musical lawyers and professionals from the music industry.

The Reggae Exhibition which celebrates Reggae music worldwide, was initially established in June 2012 in Stratford, East London to coincide with Jamaica’s 50th independence anniversary and the Jamaican Expo.

We have since had successful exhibitions in Leyton (East London) also in 2012 and at Goldsmith University/Wheelers Shunters Club, (South London) during 15th to 17th Sept. 2016 and East Ham (East London) East Ham Library in 2019.

The Exhibition will also feature and celebrate the various Dancing and Drumming styles that emanated from the music, including; Kumina, Pokomina, Burru, Mento, Nyabinghi, Ska, Rock Steady, Dance Hall, Lover’s Rock, Dub, Roots Reggae and other Genres..

The Exhibition will feature a compilation of the history, advent and world-wide growth of Reggae. All the major influences and traditions leading to the development of other genres that evolved from Reggae will be presented with previously unpublished photos, pictures, leaflets, flyers and sketches to be exhibited.

 An important and valuable aspect of the Exhibition is that it will feature workshops with Recording Artists such as; Carol Thompson (Queen of Lover’s Rock); Alan Weekes (of Aswad); Dennis Bovell (Matumbi); Carl Gentles (Lee Perry’s keyboard player); Ray Carless (Skaville Allstars); BB Seaton (Gaylords); Eddy Man (Easy Street Studios) and Michael Fuller (Music Lawyer). These Artistes and industry specialists will provide the opportunity for guests to briefly learn to sing, play instruments and get knowledge of copyright laws etc.
